'Bowl of Oranges' is a still life painting that explores light and shade, old and new, and color contrast. Freshly ripe oranges lay in a worn bowl, whose paint is scrapped, chipped, and ragged. Leaves catch the light becoming almost transparent, while those caught in shade become dark and hidden. The contrast in color is brought to the extreme in the Turquoise and Pink painting's backgrounds, which bring in a bright pop of color. The Orange variant again takes it further. The orange spills onto the page consuming the painting. Each painting adds a little twist to an otherwise classic still life.
